MUMPS

Posted by admin

Mumps is an infectious viral disease which is spread by droplets which are released into the air during coughing or sneezing. It occurs in epidemics, mainly affecting children over two years old, but can infect people of any age. After a two to three week incubation period visible symptoms appear, the most obvious being the swelling of the saliva-producing parotid glands on one or both sides of the face. This is accompanied by fever, swelling in the sub-maxillary salivary glands, swollen glands in other parts of the body and muscular pain in the jaw, ear and abdomen. The pancreas may be inflamed, causing vomiting. In some adult men mumps can cause swelling and inflammation of the testicles, sometimes leading to sterility. There are some rare but serious complications which can result, including encephalitis and meningitis in which the brain or its surrounding membranes become inflamed.

Vaccines against mumps are available and many doctors recommend immunisation for all babies aged between 12 and 15 months. The vaccine has a life of five years, following which boosters are required. Pregnant women should not receive these vaccines since they contain live viruses which can affect the foetus. Normally, once a person has had mumps, they develop an immunity to the disease. However, there are some cases where people have been re-infected.

Treatment of mumps includes isolation to prevent the spread of infection. Rest is recommended until the swollen glands subside, and mild painkillers may be used. Medical treatment may be required if there are complications such as painful or swollen testicles, severe earaches or headaches or a stiff neck. Natural practitioners prescribe a range of treatments. These include herbal medicines such as infusions of yarrow, elderflower and marigold, supplements to boost the immune system, homeopathic medicines or tissue salts and cold compresses to reduce swelling.

YOGHURT

Posted by admin

Live yoghurt contains ‘friendly’ bacteria which form lactic acid in milk, suppressing the growth of harmful bacteria. Some of the bacteria which are used to make yoghurt are Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. The bacteria in many yoghurts are still alive, but are kept dormant by refrigeration. However yoghurts which have been pasteurised or otherwise treated by heat, no longer contain live organisms.

Yoghurt is often recommended for its nutritional properties: it is a good source of protein, calcium and other minerals and A and B vitamins. Because yoghurt also contains lactose, the calcium is readily absorbed by the body. Yoghurt stimulates the synthesis of lactase, so that some people with a lactose intolerance are able to eat it without ill effect.

The inclusion of yoghurt in the diet is useful in preventing the proliferation of toxic intestinal bacteria which are often introduced into the body by contaminated foods. There are substances in yoghurt which have an antibiotic effect in the gut, reducing the concentrations of pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli so that a balanced concentration of friendly bacteria is encouraged. As a result, yoghurt may be beneficial in treating diarrhoea and other digestive disorders.

In the treatment of thrush or Candida, live acidophilus and bifidus bacteria can help to recolonise gut flora which have become unbalanced by the fungus. The lactobacilli in live yoghurt are the same which normally inhabit the vagina, so when these have been killed by some cause, such as a course of antibiotics, yoghurt inserted into the vagina for a few days, either with a spoon or a plunger, is often of benefit.

Orotic acid, a substance found in some yoghurts, interferes with the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. Inclusion of acidophilus and bifidus yoghurts in the diet is therefore recommended in the prevention of heart disease.

VERTIGO

Posted by admin

This extreme dizzy sensation is famously associated with a phobic fear of heights. While an attack of vertigo can indeed be triggered by the fear of falling from a high place, vertigo itself is usually the symptom of one of a number of disorders affecting the inner ear. An attack of vertigo usually involves the sensation of the head spinning around and around, and a loss of balance: the patient may suddenly fall right over. Sweating, nausea and vomiting may also occur.

The most common condition behind attacks of vertigo is Meniere’s disease, a degenerative condition of the middle ear usually affecting people for the first time in their fifties. Apart from the dizzy spells and periodic loss of balance, a person with Meniere’s disease (sometimes known as Meniere’s syndrome) may experience ongoing ringing in the ears (called tinnitus), and gradual hearing impairment. The cause of Meniere’s disease is little understood but believed by some medical practitioners to be caused by congestion of the lymphatic system. While medications such as Dramamine help manage the vertigo, they will not cure the disease and will not prevent the loss of hearing.

Simple motion sickness can lead to vertigo as can bacterial infections of the inner ear and viral infections such as influenza. The sensations may continue even after the patient appears to have recovered from the more acute symptoms of the ‘flu. See separate entries in this book for the treatment of these conditions.

Recurrent attacks of vertigo may also be caused by the pressure of a tumour or non-cancerous growth on the auditory or acoustic nerve. High blood pressure or hardening of the arteries may also be responsible and strokes can bring on vertigo in the elderly. If attacks of vertigo are unexplained and recurrent, you should seek medical advice. Some health practitioners recommend acupuncture with moxibustion for the management of dizziness and vertigo.

THE JOY OF PERFECT HEALTH: HELPING OTHERS

Posted by admin

The motto of this book is a wonderful phrase from one of the public lectures of Master Ching Hai: “We doubt everything and everybody except our own ignorance “.

Have it in mind, when trying to give advice to other people. They may not want it. Always ask if they need help.

Help only people who ask you for it or explicitly agree that you help them.

Even then, watch carefully // they listen to what you say. If they do not listen, it means that they are not yet ready to listen. Or perhaps you are not yet ready to give them advice.

Instead of trying to explain everything in a few sentences, give them this book, and suggest that you could perhaps answer some of their questions after they have read it. You will save a lot of time as well as avoid exhausting discussions and arguments.

If, after reading this book, people still miss the point, there is nothing you can do to help them. They should help themselves first. Their “bowl” is full. Any new information is just causing an overflow.

Note, that it may take years or even decades for some people to understand advice. Some people have to experience themselves consequences of all their mistakes before they understand. It is their best lesson.

Please notice, that in view of what we learned reading this book, “curing” other people does not really help them.

If they do not understand that all their diseases are caused by their own actions and ignorance, they will develop other diseases later on anyway.

It is clear, that it is much better to explain to them how they can heal themselves and never get sick again. The only difficulty in this approach is that they may not want to understand our advice.

TRUE HEALING – PRACTICAL ADVICE /DIET – MINIMISING THE INTAKE OF TOXINS: WHY SHOULDN’T YOU EAT MEET?

Posted by admin

Humans have a very long intestinal tract, typical to all plant eating creatures. All meat eaters have several times shorter intestines. What does this have to do with poisoning? Quite a bit. Meat in a long intestine spends a long time, before it is excreted. Too long. Not only is it more difficult to digest and more toxic to start with, but because it spends too much time inside us, it actually clogs the system and starts to rot. When the system is even partially constipated, the waste prepared for excretion is actually absorbed back into the bloodstream.

I am sure that you agree, that in-view of the above, eating meat is just asking for trouble.

Summarising, we should not eat any food, which is not optimal from the point of view of the design of our body.

Suppose that you add some water and/or sugar to your car petrol tank, just because you like it. Clearly the performance of the car will be severely compromised, and if you keep adding those ingredients to your petrol, the engine will eventually stop altogether, requiring a major service. The car engine has not been designed to run on water and sugar added to petrol, even in small quantities.

Similarly, if your computer expects 110VAC and you plug it into 240VAC (I have tried that one) you will hear a loud crack, see a big flash and a cloud of aromatic smoke will come out to indicate the end of computations.

If you do not provide koala with pure eucalyptus leaves (its natural food source), no matter how much “medical” and other attention you give to it, how “nutritious” (in your opinion) food you provide, it will get sick and die quickly.

FUNDAMENTAL BASIS OF IRISDIAGNOSIS: PARTIAL DEFORMATIONS OF THE PUPILS

Posted by admin

On the whole, these deformations consist of localised flattenings and bulgings of the margin of the pupil. In this case one should note whether these distortions appear in the right or left eye, and whether they are found in the upper, lower, nasal or temporal sectors. A sunken condition of a flattened segment leads to inward bulging, corresponding to an increase of all symptoms.

All asymmetrical deformations of the pupil are reliable indications for assessing the condition of the nervous system, as well as to imply a disease condition of those organs whose areas are localised in the sector corresponding to the flattened segment. This second point is very important.

Flattening of the left pupil margin in the upper sector indicates psychic disturbances. Flattening of the lower sector of both pupils indicates severe muscle weakness affecting the legs.

Flattening of the pupil margin in the nasal sector indicates disturbance arising from the spinal cord and its nerve trunks, and includes physical and mental conditions. Temporal flattening corresponds more with hormone disturbances. From cerebellum to gonads, including suprarenale, pancreas and heart, these organs stand in close hormonal relationship. From this arises the clinical picture of vegetative dystony.

Flattening of the pupil margin in the upper sector of the right iris is more often seen in conditions associated with hysteria, whereas involvement of the same sector of the left iris indicates a predominance of melancholic states (see also right iris: Uterus-Cerebellum line, and left iris: Rectum-Cerebellum line).

Right temporal sector flattening suggests disturbance of the liver and consequent effects. In this case, the patients are suffering from liver encumbrance arising from hereditary preconditions caused by faulty nutrition and mode of life

OSTEOPATHY

Posted by admin

Osteopathy is a system of therapy usually associated with manipulation of the spine and joints. The majority of people seek osteopathic treatment for the relief of back and neck pain. Sometimes one consultation is all that is required, but often a course of treatment over four to six sessions is recommended.

Today osteopathy has been generally accepted as an adjunct or alternative to conventional medical practices. Osteopaths take a full medical history of their patients and use X-rays and other medical technology to diagnose illness.

Osteopathy is based on the theory that the body has the inherent capacity to overcome most curable diseases. To do this, the body must have normal body mechanics, good environmental conditions and sound nutrition. Manipulation is used to correct faulty structural relationships.

An osteopathic treatment will most often involve both massage and manipulation of the joints, tendons and muscles. The manipulation is used to realign joints in order to unlock them and release tension. Osteopathy believes that a range of disorders can be cured or alleviated by such manipulation. Correcting the bodily structure allows the body to produce its own remedies.

While manipulation remains the most common osteopathic method, osteopaths also recognise the significance of medicines, surgery and nutrition in the treatment of disease.

Osteopathic manipulation of the musculature and skeleton is now commonly used in association with chiropractic, physiotherapy, naturopathy and herbal treatments. Because manipulation is potentially dangerous, it is advisable to consult a practitioner who is a member of an association like the Australian Society of Osteopaths or the United Osteopathic Physicians Guild.

THE JOY OF PERFECT HEALTH: HOW TO KEEP YOUR MIND PURE

Posted by admin

Let people do their mistakes. In most cases it is their best lesson. Help them only if they ask you for it. Note, that it works even with children. They learn faster. You just need to predict excessive danger sometimes. People make mistakes because they do not understand, and/or do not want to listen. Note, that you see mistakes of others better than you see yours. We question everyone and everything except our own ignorance. Once I was like that too.

Eliminate envy and jealousy from your mind They are totally useless and severely paralyse your intellectual capacity. Try an unconditional love instead. Do not shout about love. Just replace all those nasty negative feelings in your own mind, for yourself.

Learn to listen to your own higher mind – listen to the silence between thoughts. The best information and advice, tailored exclusively for you at any given instant is there. All talented people without exception access such a state naturally. All their ideas spring from there.

No words could possibly describe the connection with your own higher mind. In comparison to the language of your higher mind, our spoken and written languages are actually quite a primitive form of communication.

For example, the higher mind can communicate a book, musical symphony or a scientific discovery, with all the minute details in a “flash” lasting only a second or two. It may take many days or even years to “consciously” reconstruct and translate such messages into text, music or mathematical formulae, which others can then understand. Many people experience the state of euphoric joy, just by remembering such an instance of connection with their own higher mind.

Your higher mind does not only communicate books and science. The above was just one example. In fact it can help any of us in all imaginable aspects of our lives. We just need to learn to listen.

NAILS

Posted by admin

Finger and toenails are made from a specialised kind of skin cell. The stratum lucidum, the cell layer which separates the dermis and epidermis layers of the skin, hardens as the fingers and toes of the foetus develop in the womb. Nail cells are living when they have not yet emerged from under the skin but are dead from the ‘moon’ of the nail outwards. Nevertheless, this dead cell material can vary in texture, strength and flexibility depending on the condition of the original living cells, the nail bed, a person’s general health and environmental factors.

While strong and healthy nails in themselves are desirable, weak, splitting, discoloured or ridged nails can tell us much about our nutrition and overall health. For example, white spots can indicate zinc or Vitamin A deficiency. Ridging and brittleness can point to a sluggishness of the thyroid or poor circulation. White pits or grooves can result from anaemia or calcium imbalance, and spooning can indicate low iron levels. These deficiencies can be overcome with dietary adjustment and vitamin or mineral supplements. Some tests have shown that taking gelatin or silicon helps increase the flexibility of the nail.

However, external factors such as detergents, solvents, and, ironically, manicure preparations themselves, are the most common causes of nail defects. Damage to the cuticle when manicuring can lead to a variety of infections. Nail polish removers contain solvents which can seriously dehydrate the nail. Avoid acetone removers or look for a brand which contains moisturising oil. Even polishes can cause acute allergic reactions resulting in inflammation and marking of the nail surface. Fungal infections under the nail occur when the hands are wet too often. To avoid this and limit the damage caused by detergents and high alkaline soaps, protect the hands with gloves when cleaning, washing and gardening. Nail brittleness increases with age.
